You asked for easy, healthy snacks so I’m bringing you this spicy guacamole recipe!
As a dietitian and proud Mexican-American, I work with other Latinas to build healthy meals with their favorite Mexican and Latin American foods. I do this over at my meal planning app.
So when I asked my subscribers what they wanted to see more of in the meal planning app, they all said snacks!
So I whipped up this super simple, spicy guacamole recipe. I love guacamole as a snack because you can easily make a single serving in 5 minutes. Talk about an easy, healthy snack!

Ingredients
This is the best spicy guacamole recipe and it only uses 5 ingredients:
- Avocado: 1 large avocado should be enough for two people. Pick an avocado that’s just starting to soften.
- Lime: I use ½ the lime if I”m serving immediately. And if I need to set it aside for a few hours, I’ll squeeze the other half of the lime on top.
- Salt
- Jalapeño: Anywhere from 1-3 jalapeños, depending on spice level and your preference (more on that below)
- Garlic: 2 small cloves will give you garlicky flavor without overwhelming the whole dish.

- I like to char the garlic and jalapeño on the comal first, but this isn’t the most traditional approach to guacamole. I love garlicky guacamole, but raw garlic can be pretty pungent, which is why I started adding this step to my guacamole.
- It can be hard to predict exactly how spicy a jalapeño will be, especially since jalapeños are getting less and less spicy. I recommend buying and charring 3 jalapeños. Add ½ a jalapeño at a time until you’re happy with the spice level.
- You can use a molcajete to prepare and serve the guacamole in the same dish. Plus it looks stunning! (But to be frank, I hate cleaning a molcajete, so I only do this if I’m serving guests)
- It’s totally up to you if you want to make this recipe creamy or chunky! The pieces of jalapeño and garlic will prevent the recipe from being completely smooth unless you run it through a food processor.
Recipe
Easy, Spicy Guacamole
Equipment
- 1 molcajete
- 1 comal
Ingredients
- 1 avocado large
- 1/2 lime juiced
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 jalapeño see notes above
- 2 garlic cloves whole, peeled
Instructions
- Heat a comal over medium heat. Place the whole garlic cloves (peeled) and jalapeños on the comal. Char the vegetables for 5-10 minutes, until there is some charring but be careful not to completely burn the vegetables (the garlic will take less time than the jalapeño).
- Remove the stem from the jalapeños.
- Place one jalapeño and garlic cloves in a food processor and roughly chop into fine pieces.
- Cut the avocado in half, scoop the avocado flesh into a large bowl or molcajete. Discard the pit and peel.
- Squeeze the juice from ½ lime on top of the avocado.
- Add the salt, garlic, and jalapeños into the bowl with the avocado.
- Use a potato masher, fork, or pestle to mash the avocado and combine the ingredients. Continue until you´ve reached your desired texture (creamy or chunky).
- Taste. Add more jalapeño if needed.
Nutrition
Guacamole is one of my favorite healthy Mexican snacks! (See more healthy Mexican snack ideas here).
I love it so much, I wrote an entire blog post on the health benefits of guacamole, you can read it here.
Besides the heart-healthy fats and fiber you’ll find in all guacamole, this recipe also has garlic and jalapeño for extra antioxidants (1, 2)!
