This club is for health professionals, particularly Registered Dietitians, although other health professions such as doctors and nurses may also find the information useful. Students/interns of any of these health professions are also welcome. Please keep in mind assigned articles and discussion questions will be designed for at least a Bachelor’s Degree level experience in nutrition.
No! This club is aimed at evaluating research that affects the Latine community, and will be useful for dietitians who work with the Latine community.
Quarterly meetings are via Zoom and include journal discussion, implications for practice, and critical analysis.
Meetings take place in March, June, September, and December, on a weekday afternoon.
Meetings will be recorded and available to attendees afterward.
A 2nd day and time will be considered as membership increases.
When you sign up for the quarterly meeting you gain access to the zoom meeting and recording, the assigned journal article, discussion questions and suggested readings for further information/background.
Meetings are for critical analysis of peer-reviewed nutrition research. The moderator will provide background information to help round out understanding of the article, and then open the meeting up to discussion. Discussion will include strengths and weaknesses of the study, implications for practice, and recommendations for further reading/research.
Discussion of an article during club meeting is just that—a discussion. It does not necessarily indicate 100% endorsement of the authors, their views, or the assumptions and conclusions found in the article.
While the intention of this club isn’t to make profit, there are some overhead costs including maintaining the website, zoom membership, access to scientific journals, as well as labor involved in organizing and moderating.
With that in mind I’ve tried to set a price that is accessible but allows me to offset some of the costs.
Quarterly meetings are $14 each and include:
1 quarterly zoom club meeting
1 journal article provided
Discussion questions, and recommended further reading emailed to you prior to the meeting
Meeting recording
Voting on future discussion topics
Prior approval for CEUs is underway but will take several months to gain approval. In the meantime, you may still log learning activities without prior approval so long as you attend them live.
Please see this resource from CDR on how to log journal club meetings (activity type 160) as CEUs.
